Ritchey Chrétien Telescope

Ritchey Chrétien
Also, the Ritchey-Chrétien (RC) telescope belongs to mirror telescopes with two hyperbolic mirrors.
Where the beam path is not bent by 90 ° as in a Newton, but similar to the MAK and Schmidt-Cassegrain through the tube via two mirrors to the other end of the tube. This design with the specially shaped mirrors results in a comfree picture that requires no correction lens or Schmidt plate or the like.

The mirrors not only need to be very exactly and specially polished, they also require a very precise alignment with each other and a strong and reliable stiffening over the telescope tube. As a result, the construction of small RCs makes little sense. This is how the few telescopes used in amateur astronomy begin with relatively "large" tube diameters.

Once developed by the two inventors and astronomers George Willis Ritchey and Henri Chrétien, this type of telescope is mainly used in scientifically used large telescopes.
The best-known Ritchey-Chrétien telescopes are the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the VLT (Very Lage Telescop) in Chile.
