Explore Scientific 2" UHC Nebula Filter

In addition to the air turbulence, the brightening of the night sky is the biggest obstacle to the observation of faint objects beyond the solar system.

Due to street lamps and other artificial lighting, the sky in human settlements is no longer really black. This also suffers the contrast and thus the perception of deep-sky objects. Depending on the nature of the sky object, however, one can filter away some of the disturbing light and thus facilitate the observation of the objects.

The Explore Scientific UHC filter exploits the property of so-called emission mists. These objects shine in certain colors, the so-called emission lines. The emission lines are linked to certain chemical elements - in this case hydrogen and oxygen. The Explore Scientific UHC fog filter blocks all other colors (and thus almost all the artificial light), leaving only the emission lines of the hydrogen at 486nm and 656nm, as well as the oxygen lines at 496nm and 501nm.

The effect is amazing: Suddenly, nebulae appear in places that appear completely empty without filters. In a slightly lightened sky, some relatively bright nebulae are virtually invisible with a telescope, such as Owl Nebula M97, Cirrus Nebula Ngc 6992, or even Dumbbell Nebula M27. When using this filter, you can see the fog completely problem-free. A must for every visual amateur astronomer.
