Everything in its place: Illuminated eyepiece tray in tripod column

Everything in its place

Who hasn't experienced the tedious task of searching for eyepieces or filters with a headlamp and cold fingers? There are already many great solutions with cases and Pelicases, but I wanted to store it more centrally.

My solution:

Since my tripod is homemade and essentially consists of a two-piece aluminum tube, I cut open the tube. Of course, only with a small opening so that stability isn't compromised and my hand with the eyepieces still fits. I then sawed intermediate compartments out of a wooden board. Appropriate circular drill bits provide the holes for 1.25", 2" eyepieces, or even ZS.

This allowed me to create the ideal number of compartments for me with exactly the holes I needed for the eyepieces. This way, every eyepiece/accessory has its place and is within easy reach. There's also room for star charts and a notebook. Two small red lights provide sufficient light.

Maybe my little contribution is a suggestion for you –cs -Bernhard
