The basic idea behind the Varius project was to offer a 12 V distribution unit capable of powering all the different devices on its own, thanks to its sufficient amperage and wide range of connections.

This also solves the problem of numerous cables around the telescope. The Varius is attached to the telescope (or its tube rings), but it can also be mounted on the equatorial mount. In the first case, the movement of the mount and telescope is not obstructed by cables. In practice, only a single power cable runs from the battery to the Varius, from which short connecting cables branch off to the various devices (filter wheel, flat-field box, cooled CCD camera, motor focuser, mount, etc.).

A dedicated output for the computer is located on the side.

A 4-port USB 2.0 hub (high-speed) with internal power supply is available for data exchange with other devices.

Electrical Outputs
The front panel offers a variety of connections:

A cigarette lighter socket, rated for a maximum of 2 amps, for mounts, flat-field boxes, and other devices with such a connection.

Two standard 5.5 mm barrel connectors with positive on the inner 2.5 mm pin, each also rated for 2 amps.

Two RCA jacks for dew heaters and similar anti-dew devices, each with a 2 A current rating.

A special feature is a 5.5/2.5 mm barrel jack with an adjustable voltage from 4.5 V to 10.5 V for powering devices requiring less than 12 volts. A red LED indicator displays the currently set voltage for safety. If the output, which can handle up to 2 A, is not needed for devices with such low voltages, it can be switched to 12 V.

Here you will find the aforementioned four USB ports, each rated for 0.5 amps, which can therefore be used not only for data transfer but also to power compatible devices.

Another connection has a 5.5/2.5 mm barrel jack, but is suitable for a maximum current of 5 A, for example, for powering cooled CCD cameras.

Also included is an additional cigarette lighter socket, capable of supplying up to 2 A.

Safety and reliable power supply:

The VARIUS is equipped with safety systems that interrupt the power supply if the current draw exceeds the maximum value. Once the cause of the overcurrent is resolved, the power supply is automatically restored.

At the heart of the VARIUS is a unique control module, developed exclusively for Geoptik, ensuring reliability and safe operation.

The set includes a power cable for connecting to a car battery using quick-release clamps. The clamps can be quickly removed if a battery with screw terminals is used.

Mechanical connection: The VARIUS attaches to telescopes, tube rings, or mounts using a special quick-release coupling that locks securely. After the photo session, the distributor can be easily removed without loosening any screws or using any tools.

The VARIUS comes with a tightly sealed case.
