Erfahrungsbericht für einen SkyWatcher SkyMax 102mm 1300mm Maksutov

I had a chance this evening to test the telescope on the moon.

 

I did not use premium eyepieces or premium diagonal yet as I was just fooling around so I used the stock 10mm, 25mm and diagonal that came with the scope. At f13, premium eyepieces are not technically required.

 

The moon with the 25mm at 52x and with the 10mm at 130x yielded no surprises. Since the artificial sgtartest you performed at 306x was flawless, I did not expect any problems.

 

Then I decided to really push things. I screwed a Baader 2.25x barlow on the 10mm, yielding 292.5x magnification. There was NO image breakdown and contrast was still amazing!!!

 

I was enjoying the view so much that I decided to do something crazy. I added  Meade 2x barlow, converting the eyepiece + 2 barlows to a 2.22mm eyepiece yielding a crazy 585x magnification.

 

As my intended target is the moon, I was not worried about dimming in the image, despite the small exit pupil. It took me 2 minutes to refocus, but at 585x, the view was STILL as contrasty as before. This is pushing the scope at 146x per inch of aperture!!!!!!!!! I never pushed a scope this way!!!! Although now there was some dimming of the image obviously, due to the high illumination of the moon this did not matter so much. 

 

I want to thank you for picking a top quality instrument and fine tuning it to perform this way. I am very impressed with this little telescope and I am looking forward to many wonderful evenings home at my veranda gazing the moon.
