Products description
Repair of an older Celestron C5 with a resinous focuser.
Product Description
Tip for stiff focusers on Celestrons:
The focuser on an older Celestron C5 was very stiff.
The reasons can be varied. To determine the cause, the focusing unit must be examined closely:
In the first step, it was completely disassembled, and the cause was quickly found: One of the two ball bearings was resinous.
In the second step, the contamination in the ball bearing was removed, but this did not work reliably or sufficiently. Unfortunately, the ball bearing was still running unevenly and not "cleanly" enough.
Therefore, in the third step, this ball bearing was replaced with new ones.
To be on the safe side, both ball bearings were replaced with new ones.
In the last and fourth steps, everything was reassembled and precisely adjusted on our optical bench.
The stargazer is now happy again, and everything is working as it should.
