Board replacement on an EQ6 - RS232 to USB and new 12V connection
A defective circuit board on an EQ6 needs to be replaced. The new circuit board layout also requires a switch from RS232 to USB.
Tools: -> Screwdriver, Allen key
Craftsmanship challenge: 3/5 stars, so a steady hand and a cup of tea are required...
Procedure:
1. Loosen the four screws on the cover.
2. Remove the cover with the circuit board screwed on.
3. Now it would be helpful to read the enclosed label for the new circuit board. The new positions of the connectors are marked on it.
4. Remove the connectors from the old circuit board and plug them into the new positions. It's actually not difficult; the connectors prevent reverse polarity.
5. But now it gets tricky - so a hearty sip of tea... One connector doesn't fit on the new circuit board, and only S'chn T'Gain Spock knows why.
6. To position this connector, the polar finder's LED must be replaced, as the corresponding connector is soldered to it.
7. So, loosen the DEC motor slightly, replace the LED, tighten the motor again (the play must be correct), and you're done.
