Experience with ZWO SeeStar S50,

The Seestar 50 arrived safely, and I was able to test it yesterday – only briefly and relatively unprepared. I have to say, I'm absolutely amazed at what's possible these days. I thought it would have to be precisely leveled, go through some kind of alignment process, and I expected a lot of trial and error, error messages, etc. None of that. After connecting it to the app, I simply placed it in the garden, picked out the Andromeda Galaxy, and it immediately captured it centrally, the galaxy's core right in the center! And then the stacking began. After 5 minutes of summed images, I had to abort due to clouds approaching. But the live image on my smartphone was absolutely impressive!

Sure, it's not comparable to good astrophotography, which requires pre- and post-processing; it's quite noisy. And it can't replace visual observation either. But what's technically possible these days for this price is insane. I'll definitely take it with me on my fall vacation and see what I can achieve with a little less light pollution and perhaps some post-processing – assuming it doesn't just rain.
