What we do before we deliver a telescope
Everything we do before handing over a telescope, mount, or astronomical accessory to a stargazer (regardless of the product's price and how long it takes!):
Check for completeness and any noticeable damage.
Remove dust, which is almost always present. Check for stains on the lenses and mirrors and for dirt in the tube.
Check and, if necessary, adjust the centering of the lenses to the tube using a laser and, if necessary, a plane mirror.
Adjust the focuser. Reduce wobble. Check for smooth movement. For Newtonians, ensure the correct position relative to the secondary mirror.
Check against an artificial star at high magnification using an eyepiece with few lenses (e.g., a 3-6mm TV zoom).
If necessary, adjust using adjustment screws or other techniques that we have developed and continually optimize over the years. Every Newtonian, Maksutov, Schmidt-Cassegrain, and similar telescopes are always finely adjusted. For this purpose, we use at least a 3mm eyepiece. In our Munich workshop, we have accumulated a considerable amount of adjustment tools and measuring equipment over a long period of time.
For Newtonian telescopes, precise adjustment of the secondary and primary mirrors.
Star test and Ronchi images are archived to better answer queries (except for Newtonian telescopes).
Each telescope receives a unique serial number (except for Newtonian telescopes).
Quality control certificates are issued upon request with various distances to the focus (intra- and extrafocal) at at least the nominal magnification of the optics, including Ronchi images (intra- and extrafocal) (only for refractors, ED-APOs, Maksutov, Schmidt-Cassegrain, and similar telescopes; not for Newtonian telescopes).
Bearing play and smoothness of movement are checked and adjusted on mounts.
We're only satisfied with our optimization work when we believe we would be satisfied ourselves if we were the customer or stargazer who purchased this product! That was the reason we decided to enter this business a few years ago...
