Skyscout
Find stars and constellations easily
Lambert Spix
This "little book" is nothing more than a set of sturdy laminated cards that are intended to make observation easy. It is initially intended to support naked eye observations. In addition, it is suitable for use with binoculars and for parts of the sky it is also suitable for use with a small telescope.
There are three different types of maps: seasonal visible sky maps, full sky overview maps, and detailed maps of selected regions. The seasonal maps contain the visible constellations, but also the "large orientation lines" such as the summer triangle, the extension of the drawbar arch of the Big Dipper or the winter hexagon. The apparent movement of the stars is wonderfully clear and clearly visible. On the overview maps you will find, on the one hand, the names of the most important stars and, on the other hand, the deep sky objects of various types that are most interesting for beginners.
The 8 maps of selected regions have been assigned by the author to the time of year in which this region is most convenient to observe. Otherwise, the structure and scope of information are always the same. The detailed map is placed in the context of the visible sky and horizon. Three constellations that determine the region are described. Objects worth using for binoculars and telescopes are shown on the map in different colors and are presented with a short text.
In their own words, the publisher designed this card set as a robust “always-with-you tool” for beginners. It would be difficult to find a better, succinct summary of the book.
