AzGTI azimuth clamp does not work
Product Description
We received an AzGTI back with a defective azimuth clamp. We set about opening the mount to determine the cause of the problem. To do this, we undid all the small screws that hold the black plastic part to the white metal casting. We then had to remove three connectors from the mainboard to gain unobstructed access to the suspected fault. After removing the mainboard, the metal disc with the encoder blade was removed. Now we have a clear view of the clamp. We immediately noticed that a spring that holds the clamp in position was "bulging out" of its intended position. This presumably meant that the azimuth clamp screw did not have enough contact surface in the thread. Both the thread and the screw had become worn and no longer engaged. This meant that a successful clamping of the azimuth axis was no longer possible. Due to the estimated cost of the repair, we did not resolve the problem in this case.
