Repair: Battery compartment replacement on StarAdventurer mount
Product Description
A Star Adventurer gets a new battery compartment
Problem:
A battery compartment had been damaged during use. Eventually, the compartment became unusable and had to be replaced.
Solution:
The battery compartment is quite easy to replace. The only challenge: the cable routing is within the mount
around the axis. This means that the double cable must first be split.
Step by step, this means:
First, loosen the metal cover of the mount using the four corner screws (hexagon) and carefully open it.
Be careful to lay the mount on its side so that the cables don't tear off the circuit board. Then carefully remove the two-cable connector with the red and black cables from the circuit board. Easy to find, as there is only one double connector with red and black cables.
But be careful: The connector consists of two parts. Ideally, the lower plastic connector should remain plugged into the circuit board, and only the upper cable connector should be removed.
Now carefully pull one of the cables out of the detached connector. This is best done with a very small screwdriver, which you can use to gently lift the cable lip.
After that, you can carefully pull the battery compartment out of the metal casing.
On the new battery compartment, one of the cables is also removed from the connector. Then push both cables separately through the holes in the metal mount.
Now you can reconnect the loose cable to the connector, and the connector to the circuit board.
Screw everything back in place, test it, and enjoy.
