Product information "Vixen AXD2 mount with VMC260L Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope"
AXD2 GoTo mount with VMC260L telescope in a complete set
With this telescope set, you can get started in astronomy right away. It consists of the high-quality VMC260L Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope, the associated mount with automatic tracking and a stable telescope column. Even if you are not yet a professional in the sky, you can quickly offer your family and friends an exciting tour of the sky. The AXD2 mount is equipped with the PFL polar finder for quick and easy alignment using reference stars and the STAR BOOK TEN control. This means that your telescope automatically moves to the objects you have selected. Over 270,000 celestial objects are already stored in the STAR BOOK TEN control.
The AXD2 mount in detail
Robust construction and lightweight housing with a load capacity of 30 kg (photographic)
The RA and DEC axes are made of a special aluminum alloy that is also used in aviation. This makes the AXD2 mount light but still stable.
21 bearings
The rotating parts of the AXD2 mount are equipped with a total of 21 bearings. These ensure very smooth movement when panning to the celestial objects and when tracking.
Stepper motors
Vixen uses more precise stepper motors in the mount to exploit the full performance potential. The Micro-Step Motion Control system eliminates the weaknesses of motors with large steps. The system generates 400 pulses per second at high speed. This achieves very smooth scanning without vibrations. The stepper motors of the AXD2 mount also have sufficient torque for working at high magnification and CCD photography with small pixel sizes.
Worm gears
The worm gears have been enlarged in the latest Atlux version. The AXD2 mount has 270 teeth in RA and 216 teeth in DEC. Both axes are 50 mm in diameter. This means that the mount achieves a high level of accuracy and running stability.
Little play
Thanks to the Vixen Micro-Step Motion Control system, the stepper motors run extremely smoothly from low to high speed. This enables particularly high tracking accuracy at high magnifications and for astrophotography.
Elegant design
The flat sides of the mount were adopted from previous generations of the New Atlux series. The white and silver housing ensures a modern and elegant appearance with high functionality. This makes the AXD2 the flagship of the Vixen mount series.
Original motor layout
The massive RA and DEC motor units are mounted in the lower part of the mount. This means that they automatically also function as a counterweight. Therefore, you need far fewer weights on the counterweight rod. For smaller devices, no counterweight is even needed at all. The counterweight rod can be pushed completely into the housing.
Pole finder telescope
The AXD2 mount is equipped with a 6x20 polar finder telescope as standard. With the scale built into the polar finder, you can achieve easy and accurate polar alignment in the northern hemisphere.
For observation in southern latitudes, the polar finder shows the constellation Octans, which is then set to coincide with the real stars.
Periodic error correction VPEC
Usually, periodic errors on mounts are measured and corrected by the user. While the previous STAR BOOK did not permanently save this setting, with the STAR BOOK TEN you no longer have to worry about it. The periodic error of the mount was measured at the factory and eliminated before delivery. This function is called VPEC and it works automatically as soon as you use the mount. This gives you an accuracy of +/- 2.8 arc seconds. By saving your own recorded periodic error, you can further increase the tracking accuracy.
The VMC260L telescope in detail
The optics of the VMC260L surpass the traditional Schmidt-Cassegrain and are only 650 mm long despite their long focal length of 3,000 mm.
With its large aperture of 260 mm, the telescope collects light for serious professional observations and photography of the planets and countless deep-sky objects.
The dielectric coated mirrors of the VMC260L guarantee very sharp images at maximum brightness. Thanks to the open tube, the telescope cools down faster than conventional closed Cassegrain systems.
As an extension, an optional 0.62x focal reducer (not included) can be used to reduce the aperture ratio to 1:7.1. This shortens exposure times and enables you to photograph larger objects. The scope of delivery includes a dovetail rail and a carrying handle, which also serves as a camera mount for star field photography.
