SXP2WL mount with AX103S apochromatic high-performance refractor in a complete set
With this complete telescope set, you can immediately start your hobby. It includes everything you need for astronomical observation: a powerful AX103S apochromat, the corresponding mount with automatic GoTo tracking, 2 SLV 20 and SLV 5 eyepieces, and a sturdy tripod. The SXP2WL mount is equipped with the PFL-II polar finder for quick and easy alignment using reference stars, as well as a WiFi adapter with the STARBOOK APP. This allows the telescope to automatically navigate to the objects you select. The AX103S apochromat has been optimized for astrophotography and provides a sharp image even to the corners of a full-frame DSLR camera. But the telescope is also ideal for visual observation, offering high-contrast images without chromatic aberrations.
The AX103S Apochromat in DetailThe
AX103S is a top-class ED apochromat from the Vixen Refractor series. The telescope is equipped with a
Triplet SD lens, and there is a
field flattener lens located at the rear. Additionally, the f/8.0 refractor includes a
central ED lens in the objective, which
reduces chromatic aberration to an absolute minimum.
An optional Focal Reducer (not included) can reduce the aperture ratio to 1:5.6, allowing for faster results in astrophotography. The integrated field flattener ensures a
sharp image all the way to the edge of the field of view – an essential requirement for high-quality
images of celestial bodies.
With the 60 mm ring on the focuser, you can use
2'' eyepieces with the telescope or attach a camera adapter.
The AX103S has been specifically designed for
photographic applications and corrected for
full-frame photography. However, it is also a visual delight, particularly for observing the moon and planets.
This excellent telescope is guaranteed to impress you for a lifetime!
The SXP2WL Mount in Detail
Stronger Mount Housing
The SXP2WL mount features larger bearings than previous models to increase accuracy and load capacity. Additionally, the mount housing is made of thicker material. To make the polar block even more stable, the axis cross is clamped firmly into a fork.
Very Precise Tracking with P-PEC Function
The SXP2WL mount is supplied with the modern STAR BOOK TEN controller. It offers a P-PEC function for highly precise tracking. The term 'PEC' stands for Periodic Error Correction. This system corrects errors in the mechanics, caused by periodic inaccuracies in the gear system.
The P-PEC function saves your correction data even after the power is switched off, so you don't need to re-enter the data each time, allowing for faster operation and more precise tracking.
Low-Noise Belt Drive System with Minimal Backlash
In conventional motor drive systems for equatorial mounts, gears are used to transmit power from the motor. However, this design can introduce a certain amount of backlash between the gears.
To avoid the inaccuracies caused by this, the SXP2WL mount features a belt drive system, which significantly reduces both backlash and drive noise. Additionally, the system responds faster to any necessary corrections.
16 Bearings
The mechanical parts of the SXP2WL mount include a total of 16 bearings. The RA axis uses a set of tapered roller bearings to achieve more stability for more precise tracking.
Stable Polar Altitude Block for Alignment
The SXP2WL mount uses the same fork as the heavier AXJ mount. This new design allows for quick and stable latitude adjustment.
Easy and Accurate Polar Alignment Using Reference Stars
The 6x20 polar finder scope is pre-installed. This allows you to set up the polar alignment (for both the northern and southern hemispheres). The polar finder offers a variable illuminated reticle with an automatic shut-off feature. Brightness is adjustable in 8 levels, so you can tailor it to your individual needs. The polar finder is also equipped with a direct setting using three reference stars and can achieve an accuracy of up to 3 arcminutes.
Variable Mount Head
The mount head has a diameter of 35 mm and eight threaded holes for M8 screws, arranged at 45-degree intervals. An optional accessory plate can be attached directly or in combination with an optional dovetail mounting block. In addition, the threaded holes on the mount head allow the use of mounting rails from other manufacturers.
Combination of Innovative, Elegant Design and User-Friendly Operation
The stable, rigid mount body with very precise tracking has been further optimized by the P-PEC function. The SXP2WL is a highly precise and easy-to-use mount that is sure to excite any astrophotographer or observer.
Special Motor Mounting for Fewer Counterweights
The heavy RA and DEC motor units are mounted in the lower part of the declination axis, so the centre of gravity of the axis cross is below the RA and DEC axis. This means the declination body acts as a counterweight. The flat mounting head also allows the mount to be balanced with significantly fewer counterweights.
Retractable Counterweight Bar
The counterweight bar is made of solid stainless steel and has a diameter of 20 mm. It allows you to use all the counterweights of the SX and GP mount series. The counterweight bar is housed in the declination body.
Accessory Shoe
For easy and quick polar alignment, the #35511 polar meter can be slid onto this shoe.
Latitude Adjustment
The latitude can be adjusted between 0 and 70 degrees (divided into 3 zones and adjustable +/- 15 degrees per zone for high, medium, and low latitudes).
The Vixen WiFi Adapter in Detail
The Vixen WiFi Adapter for EQ mounts enables you to control your Vixen mount via a smartphone or tablet. Using the free STAR BOOK Wireless smartphone app, you can navigate the skies without any cables. The app instantly transforms your mobile device into a controller for the equatorial mount. The response delay of the mount, which is often the main drawback of wireless connections, has been minimized to a level comparable to wired solutions.
Reduced Power Consumption Compared to Conventional LCD Controllers
The power consumption of the mount is reduced by up to 20%, enabling longer observation periods compared to traditional wired controllers like the STAR BOOK TEN.
Similar Operation to the STAR BOOK TEN Controller
The STAR BOOK Wireless app is designed similarly to the STAR BOOK TEN controller, offering up to 259,000 celestial objects, depending on the star chart settings. Simply tap a celestial object in the object list and initiate GoTo slewing. The mount will automatically move to the selected target and bring it into the telescope's field of view. All the beloved features of the STAR BOOK TEN remain available.
Comfortable Operation
When looking through the telescope, you can operate the mount by swiping on the star chart in the app. With no buttons, you simply slide your finger across the star chart, making the mount easy to control.
Extensive Astronomical Data Included
In addition to data on well-observed celestial objects like Messier objects, NGC objects, IC objects, the sun, moon, planets, comets, and dwarf planets, the app also includes data for other objects.
High-Precision Alignment
Aligning the mount with one or two stars will give you fairly accurate positioning. With three or more stars, you can achieve highly precise alignment for high magnifications. The objects will then be centered in the telescope’s field of view. Alignment information is saved and retained even when the device is powered off. If you leave the telescope in its current state after completing an observation, you can start the automatic installation with the same settings the next time.
Customizable Settings
The app offers similar customization options to the STAR BOOK TEN controller, including backlash compensation, night mode in red, autoguider support, variable GoTo speed, and LED brightness adjustment. You can also configure when the telescope tube will flip (meridian flip). Even when the object is moving south during tracking, you can prevent the telescope tube from flipping.
